Terroir I – A Sense of Place
Thinking Surrounds New Hospitality Symposium

Toronto, Ontario – On Tuesday, March 6, 2007, Chefs, food writers, wine and food experts, and business leaders from across the GTA will come together for a first of its kind symposium that offers the opportunity to share experiences and celebrate the hospitality industry.
Eau de Vie, a group of five women involved in various facets of the hospitality business, will present Terroir: A Sense of Place. Nurturing Taste, Service and Excellence in Toronto’s Vibrant Hospitality Industry. This group of women gathered together several months ago to discuss the issues of community and service within the hospitality sector, quickly realizing a forum did not currently exist for like-minded professionals wanting to come together to share ideas and common experiences.
Group founder Arlene Stein, who has worked in the hospitality industry for over a decade, felt strongly that something new and creative needed to be explored. “There are so many passionate individuals within our industry who are dedicated to continually pushing their levels of service and creativity forward,” said Stein. “It seemed to be a large waste of time that these talented people have to travel to conferences in the US or Europe to get a greater sense of community when the seeds for this community already exist in our own backyard.”
The group next spoke with a number of key individuals in the industry who liked the direction of the symposium and agreed to participate. As a result, Jamie Kennedy, a well known and widely respected Toronto-based chef agreed to be the keynote speaker for the day and Dick Snyder, Editor of City Bites magazine is Event Chair. They, together with an outstanding selection of panelists, chefs and industry experts, will look to build on our sense of community and celebrate the culture of excellence within our hospitality industry.
