Gregory Smith graduated from the University of Nebraska with a degree in foreign language, but his professional trajectory took him in a different direction. Having shown an affinity for international travel and restaurant management, he found his calling in the world of wine shortly after entering the restaurant business at the age of seventeen.
A Certified Sommelier by the Court of Master Sommeliers, Smith is Wine Director at Central Restaurante, currently ranked number one in Latin America and number four internationally by The World's 50 Best Restaurants, and also oversees the restaurant's bar program. Having created a unique beverage program at Central Restaurante, he is also a bellwether of Peru's growing wine culture, an educator of its new generation of sommeliers, and a proponent of its small but growing natural wine industry. Smith is also an independent wine consultant and writer, and currently resides in Lima, Peru.
