John Croutch is an Anishinaabe member of Wikwemikong reserve.
John has a BA in history from the University of Toronto and a Culinary Arts Certificate from Liaison College. As a former restauranteur John appreciates the connection between cultural identity and culinary practices.
Employed by the Standardized Patient Program at the University of Toronto as a trainer/ standardized patient, John helps health care professionals hone their patient centred communication skills.
John helped develop a series of videos for Internationally Educated Health Professionals that helps clear up some of the misconceptions associated with Indigenous peoples.
Every year John speaks to 4th year medical students as part of Transition to Residency program and 2nd year medical students in the Indigenous Health Elective on his experiences with the healthcare system.
John also sits on the Council of Aboriginal Initiatives at U of T and guides tours for First Story at the Native Canadian Centre of Toronto.
