WINEMAKER, GROWER, VITICULTURIST
SOUTHBROOK VINEYARDS, NIAGARA
Considered a leading force in the Canadian movement towards organic and biodynamic fine winemaking, Ann has three decades of experience in winegrowing and winemaking, and has played a pivotal role in the development and recognition of skin fermented white (“orange”) wines in Canada.
Ann prefers a vineyard-focused ideology which is passionately applied to her winemaking, from detailed organic and biodynamic grape-growing practices through gentle and meticulous handling in the winery.
International winemaking stints in South Africa and Argentina preceded more recent winery start-ups, including Clos du Soleil (2009) and her own Sperling Vineyards (2008) - - as well as, and with Peter Gamble, Versado from their 1920 Malbec planting in Mendoza, Argentina. Add to this her various consulting projects and you'll start to get an understanding how Ann loves to spend her time—immersed in the creation of fine wines.
