Chef Alex Chen is one of Canada’s most respected culinary leaders, recognized for his understated finesse, classical French training, and composure under pressure. His career spans luxury hotel kitchens, elite international competitions, award-winning restaurants, and national television.
A seasoned competitor, Alex led Team Canada to a Top-10 finish at the Bocuse d’Or in Lyon, France, in 2013—one of the country’s strongest results on the world’s most demanding culinary stage. In 2025, he returned to the Bocuse d’Or in a leadership role as Team Canada Judge, helping guide the next generation of Canadian chefs on the world stage.
Alex is the Executive Chef of Boulevard Kitchen & Oyster Bar in Vancouver, opened in 2014, and Chef-Partner of Wild Blue Restaurant + Bar in Whistler. Under his leadership, Wild Blue earned #2 Best New Restaurant from Air Canada enRoute, #4 on Canada’s 100 Best New Restaurants, and later ranked #66 on Canada’s 100 Best Restaurants. Boulevard has garnered multiple national honours, including Gold Medal Plates championships (2015, 2017), gold at the 2018 Canadian Culinary Championships, and consistent placement on Canada’s 100 Best Restaurants and World’s 50 Best Discovery. Alex was named Vancouver Magazine Chef of the Year (2018) and Pinnacle Award Chef of the Year (2019).
In 2018, Alex made television history as the first challenger to defeat an Iron Chef on Iron Chef Canada. He is a recurring judge on Wall of Chefs and appeared as a guest judge on Top Chef Canada Season 12 in 2025.
